The First Travel Miracle
When I was 19 one of my dear friends went to Bible School in Sweden and that inspired me to sign up to go to Bible School too, but I didn’t want the same experience as her or to be compared to her so when I was putting the schools in the order I wanted to attend them I put the one she went to last, and second to last was the school in England because I always felt that if I was going to travel to Europe I wanted to experience a place that spoke a different language. So I was assigned the school in Germany.
As the time approached I realized I didn’t have to money to go to Europe so I called the school and told them I would have to re apply to come the following year. Honestly I never thought about it again after that until a year later when I got a call from a girl who was headed to that school asking if I would like to travel with her. I told her that I wasn’t going because I still didn’t have the money… Then it hit me that I did have the money. My father had recently given me an inheritance from the sale of my grandmother’s house and that was enough to take the trip!! Except I had not applied for this school year so I needed call them to see if there was room for me or if I could be put on the waiting list.

Hello and Welcome!!
I created Ms Melanie’s World as a safe place for older black women to come and learn how to travel on a budget but still in style and to find and connect with their tribe. Are you broke or close to broke and feel like you can’t travel because it is too expensive? Are you an experienced solo traveler always looking for new tips and tricks? Are you a solo traveler who now wants a travel buddy to bop around with? Are you an inspiring expat still learning the ropes? If you are, you are not alone, we are all still learning something and you are in the right place.
I was born in San Francisco but grew up in Seattle. I left the US in 2003 and have lived internationally for the last 21 years. I have lived in Germany, France, England and on the tiny tropical US territory island of Saipan. I have had extended stays in the UK, Croatia, Bulgaria, Guam, Melbourne AUS and ChristChurch NZ. I have visited many cities in France, Austria, Switzerland, Serbia, Italy, Spain, Korea, and I am just getting started!!! I speak English, French, basic German and understand Spanish and a few words in Russian, Arabic, and Korean. I actually love learning languages.
I tell you all this because here is where I plan to tell all the stories from my past trips and travels and my many years of living in different places around the world!! There are a lot of them! Some are funny, some are shocking, some are wild and some are, well, kinda unbelievable!!
Sooooo here we go!!!
